is reinvented for the needs of a post-television
generation.
“The poet Stephane Mallarme thought ‘the world
exists to end in a book.’ We are now in a position
to transfer the whole show to the memory of a
computer.” (McLuhan 1964, p.59)
The second factor provides an answer of sorts to
writer Tom Wolfe’s famous question of the 1960s:
“But what if he is right?” The latest surge of the
techno-cultural wave, in which the dominance of
